NOX-many people over the years even fans of yours have complained about The lack of traditional black metal music in your sound even though you are a black metal band and record for an ideological black metal label like moribund.has anyone including your current or former labels put pressure on you to change or revert to your bands old sound?i actually prefer the current one myself.
Xaphan-No we do what the fuck we want! If we want to record a all acoustic album that is what the fuck we are going to do! And I believe Odin and Moribund would support it he really is the only person whose believed in us over the years! We have heard people bitchin' about us not being black enough, I say fuck it! We were doing the black shit in the early nineties, were the fuck were you then ? Probably suckin' on your mama's titty! Any way who has time or wants to do makeup and leather not us We would rather invoke those ideas and images ! I love the old bathory and Celtic frost image but it is an old and over used idea!

NOX-when summon was first formed the bands influences were sodom,venom ,bathory and the mighty beherit.bands that were largely old school even in the early nineties now your bands sound resembles more the modern death metal sound.when I listen I hear more krisiun and suffocation than old school black metal.your new cd is very diversified and unique.definetly a mixture of many different styles but all under the auspices of black and death metal.since this new cd is your finest and most well written,well Produced and well played I would say the formula of inventiveness has worked.what musical plans do you have in the future for summon and can you ever imagine abandoning the death metal genre and experimenting even further with Summons sound like groups like ulver,dodsheimgard and fluerty have?
XAPHAN-Fuck Yeah! We are playing with the idea of writing a two disc album of every metal sound we can come up with! Summon - The Black Album ,The opposite of The Beatles - The White Album ,but just as diverse! A experiment in our possibilities as musicians and writers , I mean everything from experimental noise , to grind , to black metal , to power metal , and maybe even a power ballad! I think it would be sick!

NOX-summon refuses to wear war paint and you’ve gone as far as to claim Leather clad spikes wearing corpse painted musicians are absurd which I Disagree with.isnt it really a tradition? doesn’t or cant it represent more than just an image?black metal is to me and many people far more than a music style it is a pagan cult who’s music represents an atavistic call to the dark Pagan spirit of European man.it is also a devastating weapon against the lie that is Christianity or at least it can be.ive always felt black metal and Even its image were more than just a popular style of music but a movement not for the trendies but the true elite who not only appreciated the true Sound of black metal but its true purpose.i understand many play black metal just because they enjoy it as an art form but how do you feel about people who are genuine about the anti-Christian and pro- pagan movement within the scene?
XAPHAN-I think Black Metal is a great tool against the lie of Christianity! But to many stupid shitty bands use it and it has lost it's power it once had in the nineties! As far as a pagan movement ? Most bands couldn't take over a elementary school let alone the whole global visions of Christianity! Sure it's a art form within music but for most , that is all it is for some! NOX-summon is known for touring heavily and ive heard your planning a Major tour with revenge in a believe the early fall.can fans in Ohio and Pittsburgh get prepared to see your band live?tell me a little bit About your live show.since summon dispenses with the traditional stage outfits,pagan imagery and smoke machines most black metal bands use what can fans expect?a great deal of high energy blasting I would think.
XAPHAN-: I don't think the tour with Revenge is not going to work out , but are working on touring and spreading our hatred all over the US! We do not use any spikes or fog machines, Fuck that shit! We use our intensity and power of our music to make up for that! Our shows consist of lots of beers and lots of fuckin chaos! Be sure it is a good fuckin time of intense brutality! Relentless audio devastation!

NOX-as I mentioned earlier your original influences were bands like sodom,venom and dark throne but I wonder what bands influence summons Musical progression in its ever evolving sound today?
XAPHAN-We all listen to all different kinds of music , not just metal ! I personally am influenced by everything I hear, like it or not! I learn from music what I like to hear and what I don't like to hear ! So I am influenced by too many to mention!

NOX-yes summon is all about the music and the live performance and your fantastic at both but summon is also stridently anti -christian and satanic.i was wondering philosophically were does such antagonism Come from?did all your members come from a devout Christian background ala cazz grant of recrucifier or were you raised in an anti- Christian household?what fuels such ant- Christian diatribes like spew forth blasphemy and satanicslut?why such animosity to the dead Hebrew lunatic?is it just a high iq or something else?
XAPHAN-I decided at a very young age that religion was useless in my life ! I like to use the instant offensiveness of it , It's not that I hate a god in particular , but rather the minimal minds that believe that shit! I was raised catholic , I am not sure as for the rest of the guys!

NOX-in extension of the last question your song titles seem to veer Like nun slaughter toward more traditional shock type lyrics like there song guts of Christ etc.it also reminds me a bit lyrically of deicide as well.more pure blasphemy than an ideological stance. a great distance away from the Byronic or laveyan elite Satanist like Anton Crowley or the hardcore elitism of Boyd rice or Michael moynihan.is this what Satanism means to you? hate filled anti Christian blasphemy or is there a method and belief behind the Christ loathing madness.
XAPHAN-I hate all religions ! Fuck them all ! It's control of some sort, religion should be kept to one's self no one cares! it's just , here's some sick blasphemy to offend your stupid god and make you hate us ! We Live to be Hated! (GG Allin RIP) No real method to the madness just what I have on mind at the time!

NOX-your label moribund is largely an ideological label that really at This point has become the true pounding heart of black metal.even the most hardened black metal fan has respect for the mighty moribund and its multitudes of bands.what attracted you to moribund initially and how do you feel being on such an ideologically based label with bands like sargeist,horned almighty and leviathan?
XAPHAN-We have known Odin and Moribund since they began, Our original band masochist was signed to Moribund! They are the only label that we have encountered they are true to what they say and believe in us ! They are a great label to be on!

NOX-summon mixes many genres to original and sometimes stunning effect But many in the underground feel there is to much musical mixing ala Arcturus and ulver.bands who mix the sound so much its no longer even
resembles rock much less metal.how do you feel about such experimentation is it good or to much of a commercial diverson?shouldnt such bands leave the genre or Simply leave such experimentation to side projects?
XAPHAN-Fuck No! How can anything new happen or evolve? Experimentation is what creates break throughs and progression in music!

NOX-the American black metal scene now rules the roost in my opinion in terms of quality bands.groups like draugar,summon, leviathan and kult ov azazel are releasing quality black metal that not openly surpasses but outclasses and out performs much of what is released from europe these days.i applaud Americas coming preeminence over the global black metal scene.how do you feel about it?
XAPHAN-Fuck the scene and who cares , it's all bullshit in the end ! If it rocks it rocks , plain and simple!Total Destruction !!!! Kill something you love , Destroy something beautiful!

NOX-your band I believe was originally formed in icy cold michigan.the Home of Detroit the crime capital of America which has spawned such quality metal performers as kid rock,eminem and the insane clown posse definitely a major contributor to rock and roll history still alike cooper,iggy pop and ted Nugent are from Michigan as well and hell kiss even wrote a song about detroit.i wonder do you stay in contact with any Michigan head bangers and is there still a scene there?
